Yes. YES! This is exactly what education is supposed to do and exactly why it's so important that even your local mechanic should be able to find Iraq on a map. Not to mention, be able to relate at least a little of the history, politics, and current events in the region.

It's frightening that people who can vote cannot think; they have to be told. Howard Kunstler nailed the issue when he said :

My favorite anecdote overheard in a coffee shop. It was December 7, and some customers were talking about Pearl Harbor day with the owner. The young employee stopped them and said; "Wait a minute! We dropped a bomb on Japan?" She looked about 17 so she would be voting soon.
