Ran into a colleague the other day and he was asking about blogs. He's more into the financial/marketing aspect. Anyway, it reminded me I had been slack in posting anything original this summer. I better get warmed up and ready for the new school year (in like a week and a half)!
Another friend, a computer geek who is deep into GTD, recommended a book by Edward (Ned) Hallowell called CrazyBusy. He gave me an audio copy (and both of David Allen's books on audio!) for my birthday and I'll post a review when I give it a listen.
The audio of Getting Things Done is abridged, but that's good in a way. It's a great introduction that makes you want to grab the book for the illustrations of what he's talking about. Another good intro is simply typing "Getting Things Done" into wikipedia. It's a good summary with links. These are especially helpful when friends ask you about your productivity system, but seem allergic to reading the whole book right up front. Another good resource is David Allen's own company website (linked below). He has many short introductory documents FOR FREE that you can download as pdfs. A primer on his filing system, flow charts, etc.
An finally, I wanted to mention a little lifehack from his book that I found upon a re-read. He mentions flipping through his files and purging while on hold. That's brilliant! I HATE calling tech support or customer service anything because of the long holds, but flipping through files and purging stuff while on hold would lessen the sting of both those activities.
